5 Healthy Swaps for Trick-or-Treaters This Halloween

5 Healthy Swaps for Trick-or-Treaters This Halloween

What are healthy candy alternatives for Halloween? Are there healthy trick-or-treat ideas that my kids will love?

Halloween is undeniably a favorite holiday for kids all across America. With all the activities, celebrations and treats — what’s not to love about it? Plus, all the pumpkins, both as decor and in sweet treats, make this holiday extra special.

However, we know that Halloween candy is not the healthiest thing for your health. Though a treat every now and then is perfectly fine, too much at once can hurt your teeth. And Halloween is when kids tend to have a little too much. Luckily, there are healthy alternatives that are just as sweet and delicious.

Healthy Swaps for Halloween Treats

Instead of denying your little ones a sweet treat this Halloween, why not swap it for an equally delicious, healthier alternative? Check out or list of healthy trick-or-treat swaps.

Instead of: Candy apple

Try: Apple slices dipped in peanut butter

Why It’s Better: Apples are full of good nutrients like fiber and vitamin C. Plus, they have less sugar than candy apples and are more gentle for teeth.

Instead of: Full-size candy bar

Try: Mini or “fun size” bar

Why It’s Better: A fun-size treat means you don’t have to compromise taste, and it’s less-calorie dense.

Instead of: Chewy caramel candy

Try: Sugarless gum

Why It’s Better: Chewy candy or taffy can stick to your gums and cause damage to your tooth enamel. Sugarless gum has all the chewiness you love, minus the sugar.

Instead of: Chocolate & crunchy peanut bars

Try: Homemade dark chocolate-covered nut butter dates

Why It’s Better: Homemade snacks give you more control over the ingredients. These dark chocolate-covered dates are stuffed with nut butter and topped with chopped nuts.

Instead of: Potato chips

Try: Fruit and veggie chips

Why It’s Better: Swapping chips with fruits and veggies means you get more vitamins and minerals than your standard potato chip. To make these, simply slice your favorite fruit or veggie and bake in the oven until crispy. Enjoy!
